Q:Will I get body impressions in my mattress? What can I do about them?
  • In today’s plusher mattresses, state-of-the-art foams and fibers conform to the shape of your body to relieve pressure points and provide a more restful night’s sleep. If you sleep in the same spot night after night, the fibers and foams will naturally conform to the shape of your body.
  • There’s often an adjustment period that takes place while your body settles into the bed and the bed conforms to your body. This adjustment will usually measure less than 1 1/2" in height and not affect the performance of the mattress. You can reduce this by occasionally rotating your mattress from end-to-end or top-to-bottom.
  • With today’s better engineering and added comfort materials in bedding, Pillowtop mattresses will typically develop signs of body impressions more than non Pillowtop mattresses.
  • REMEMBER: Expect some level of adjustment when sleeping on a new mattress. After all those years on your old bed, you may need some time to get used to the "feel" of the new set. It may take from 3 to 4 weeks or it could be as short as one night.
Q:What are the advantages of a single-sided mattress?
  • Today’s mattresses are specifically designed to be single-sided and do not ever have to be flipped. Therefore turning the mattress over is not required.
  • You will find that the entire bedding industry, for the most part, offers only single-sided mattresses today. All Serta® mattresses distributed through our retail partners are single-sided.
  • Serta does manufacture two-sided mattresses for our hotel partners and are sold online under our hotel/motel category and are sold in bulk of 2, 3, and 6 packs.
Q:What sizes do Serta mattresses come in?
  • Twin Mattress (38" x 74.5")* OR Twin XL Mattress (38" x 80")
Ideal for children or single sleepers. However, the short length of the standard twin is not suitable for people over 5’ 5" tall. For taller individuals, the Twin XL is recommended.
  • Full/Double Mattress (53" x 74.5")*
Will comfortably accommodate a single sleeper who is under 5’ 5". Parents are increasingly choosing full-size mattresses over twins for teenage bedrooms and for younger children.
  • Queen Mattress (60" x 79.5")*
As the most popular mattress size, it is perfect for guest rooms, smaller master bedrooms and for couples who prefer close quarters. It’s also a great choice for single sleepers who are "sprawlers."
  • King Mattress (76" x 79.5")*
Best choice for couples who want maximum personal sleeping space. It can also easily accommodate children or pets that may pop into bed. However, the large size can pose problems in smaller rooms. For those seeking an even larger mattress, there is a variation of the King called the California King which measures 72" x 83.5".
Q:What is a split box spring?
  • A split box spring is a box spring in 2 pieces. All King and Cal King box springs are comprised of two pieces and we also offer a split Queen box spring. A split queen box spring is (2) 30" x 79" boxes which equal the size of one whole queen. A King box spring is (2) 37.5" x 79" boxes. A Cal King box spring is (2) 35.5" x 83" boxes.
  • A split box spring is typically easier to fit through small doorways, narrow staircases, etc.
Q:What is the difference between a low profile and regular box spring?
  • The thicker the mattress also means it might cover a larger portion of your headboard and/or footboard. If you are concerned, you might consider purchasing a "low profile" SET. This does not cost any more than a regular/standard SET.
  • A regular box spring has a height of 9". A low profile box spring (also referred to as LP or LoPro) has a height of 5 3/4" and therefore will lower your new mattress set by approximately 3".
Q:What is the difference between the hotel mattresses and other mattresses sold at samsclub.com? (For more information, refer to the Hotel/Motel section)
  • Sam's Club .com carries Serta® Hotel/Motel products in convenient bulk packs. They are available in 2-packs, 3-packs, and 6-packs, intended for use by a guest property. Shipping is included in the price of all Hotel/Motel pack products on samsclub.com.
  • 2-sided, for "Easy-Flip" Advantages: The Hotel/Motel mattress can be flipped and rotated which will prolong the life of the mattress, ultimately saving your property money. Mattress manufacturers warrant against manufacturing defects and if a bed becomes uncomfortable due to normal wear and tear it is not usually covered. By having two sides, the mattress will provide longer lasting comfort. We recommend you flip your 2-sided mattress every six months for maximum comfort to the guest.
Q:What is the difference between innerspring and foam mattresses?
  • Innerspring mattresses — The most widely purchased type of mattress. These mattresses feature tempered steel coils in a variety of configurations. Layers of upholstery provide insulation and cushioning between your body and the spring unit. Serta offers a variety of advanced and durable innerspring systems.
  • Foam Core Mattresses — Instead of coils, these mattresses use either latex or Visco-Elastic Memory Foam cores as the support system.
Q:Are the mattresses featured on samsclub.com available in the clubs?
  • Yes, some of the mattresses featured on samsclub.com are available in clubs. The Kendell, Edgebrooke and Knollcrest models are available in all Sam's Club locations. The Somersworth model is available in select clubs. There are display units available in club so you can test out the different mattresses.
Q:Can I buy just a mattress only and/or why should I buy a complete set when my box springs look fine?
  • Yes, you can, but today's mattresses and foundation sets are designed to work together as a unit for maximum support and to ensure that the expected feel is obtained from the new bed
  • A new mattress on an old box spring may cause the mattress to wear out and/or sag prematurely. In many cases, the main reason for a mattress wearing out is a bad box spring. Samsclub.com does not sell boxsprings separately.
  • Fire tests show that, in many cases, a 1633-compliant mattress that is used with a pre-standard box spring will fail the standard's testing requirements. So mixing a new mattress with an old foundation may pose a safety risk to consumer.
Q:Does this come with a bed frame?
  • No, bed frames are not included. However, it is important to have a strong, metal frame with proper center support for the mattress to perform and feel right. (This is required for queen and king sizes, see warranty card for diagrams).
Q:Will my sheets fit or do I need to buy deep pocket sheets?
  • Most mattress sets today are designed with advanced cushioning layers to fully conform to your body, providing enhanced support and maximum comfort. Thus, they are generally much thicker than older models. This means your old sheets might not fit. You may need deep pocketed sheets, designed for thicker mattresses, depending on what style you buy. Our thickest mattress at Sam's Club is approximately 15".
Q:What's a typical warranty?
  • The length of the warranty does vary by model. The Serta® Perfect Sleeper® sold at Sam's Club has a 10-Year Limited Warranty. Other Serta mattresses sold at Sam's Club have a 5-Year Limited Warranty.
Q:How long should a mattress last?
  • A mattress is designed to perform for the length of its warranty. However, you should compare your current mattress and foundation to newer models every few years, as bodies and sleep habits change. Other circumstances may lead to a need for a new mattress, such as a child outgrowing his or her current sleep set or your desire to upgrade your mattress.
Q:What if I have a platform bed?
  • The single sided (no flip) nature of today's mattresses makes all the models we carry a fine choice, based upon the comfort and category that is best for you. When you use a platform bed you do not need a foundation/boxspring, you can place the mattress directly on the slats.
Q:Does a mattress have to be firm to be supportive?
  • In today's modern mattresses, the support comes from the innerspring. The comfort layers determine the surface "feel." Every Serta® mattress features an advanced and durable innerspring system designed to deliver proper spinal support. That means you can choose the mattress that feels the best to you, and you will receive the support you need.
Q:Why does my mattress sag?
  • Several factors can cause mattress sagging, including an improper bed frame, improper center support, a damaged or bent frame or a damaged/broken box spring. Using a proper bed frame with proper center support and taking proper care of your box spring will greatly reduce the chances of mattress sagging. Please refer to the Serta warranty brochure for further information.
Q:How much should I spend on a new Serta® mattress?
  • Keep in mind, you spend one-third of your life in bed, so you should buy the best bed you can afford. At what amounts to pennies per night, it's an important investment in your health and wellbeing.
Q:Is it really important to not remove the "do not remove" tag?
  • Contrary to popular belief, it's not illegal to remove this tag, but the information on the label will serve as a means of identification should you have a warranty claim.
Q:Do Serta® mattresses comply with the new federal mattress flammability standards?
  • Yes, in fact, Serta® has been manufacturing mattresses and box springs compliant with this standard since 2005, when they introduced their FireBlocker flame-retardant technology. FireBlocker is a proprietary blend of natural and synthetic fibers that helps isolate the impact of a fire and limit its spread. We promise our consumers that we do not use any harmful chemicals in our products and we uphold the standards of the US Consumer Product Safety Commission.
Q:Is the latex used in your mattresses the same latex that is used in latex gloves or bandages? I've heard about potential allergies.
  • No.  The latex we use in our mattresses (Knollcrest and Somersworth) is made differently than the latex used in the healthcare industry. Our latex undergoes a unique formulation and thorough, five-stage washing process that removes the vast majority of proteins while enhancing the quality of the overall product. The latex used in medical protective products, i.e. latex gloves, bandages, is made using a dipped vulcanization process, different than the process we use, and prolonged, high direct-skin exposure can cause a potential for problems that some people have with latex.

The FDA monitors complaints for allergic reactions to natural rubber latex. To our knowledge, there has never been a single complaint over the past 28 years of experience stemming from the natural rubber found in mattresses.
Q:I am allergic to latex, should I buy this bed?
  • Out of caution, if you have a documented or known allergic reaction to latex, we do not recommend you purchase ANY products containing latex.
Q:Who is the National Sleep Foundation (NSF) and what does it mean?
  • The NSF and Serta have partnered to promote better sleep through the combination of optimal mattress design and enhanced sleep education. Every Perfect Sleeper mattress was designed and tested with input from NSF sleep experts to provide you with the key elements of comfort, support, and temperature regulation necessary to promote better sleep.

The National Sleep Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to improving public health and safety by achieving understanding of sleep and sleep disorders, and by supporting sleep-related education, research, and advocacy.
